What to Expect from Therapy with Dr. Kelly Caver

Evidence-Based

I provide evidence-based therapy, selecting techniques that research has shown to be effective for your specific problems. I draw from a variety of treatments, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), and, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and metacognitive therapy for anxiety. We’ll work on identifying and changing unhelpful actions and learning to relate differently to your thoughts and feelings so they’re not as powerful. I can help you approach your fears and retrain your body and brain to feel more confident and comfortable.

Telehealth

With telehealth, you can conveniently engage in therapy without having to commute to an office. You’ll need a private location with an internet connection and a device capable of videoconferencing (ideally a laptop, desktop, or tablet). Research has demonstrated that online therapy is just as effective as in-person psychotherapy. You must be located in Washington state at the time of our sessions, or the service I can provide to you may be limited or prohibited.

Culturally Informed

I practice cultural humility – a lifelong commitment to understanding my own and my clients’ cultural identities, privileges, and experiences of oppression. I regularly educate myself on the experiences of those who hold identities different from my own. We’ll integrate your cultural identities, values, and strengths into our therapy. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and often treat individuals going through gender transitions. I’m happy to provide letters in support of gender-affirming medical care to my current clients. I am neurodiversity affirming and experienced in treating many clients with ADHD who wish to address their OCD, anxiety, and sleep issues.

Collaborative and Goal-Oriented

The style of therapy I provide is collaborative, goal-oriented, and active. We’ll work together to identify your treatment goals based on your problems, circumstances, values, and strengths. We will tailor your treatment to your unique needs and goals. I take an active approach and encourage practice outside of the session.  I’ll provide education about OCD, anxiety, and sleep, and teach you valuable skills. We’ll work together to help you to create meaningful change.

Length of Therapy

The length of our treatment is flexible based on your goals and needs. Some clients experience significant benefits after a few months of weekly therapy, while others benefit from longer-term treatment to address multiple goals or more complex needs. I recommend weekly appointments for all clients initially to actively work toward their goals. Therapy sessions are 45 or 60 minutes long.

Who Dr. Caver Treats

I treat individual adults 18+ in Washington state who are experiencing concerns within my expertise, e.g., anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), sleep issues, and life stress and transitions, and are motivated to have goal-oriented therapy that often includes skill practice outside of our sessions. I do not treat psychosis, substance abuse, or disordered eating, and recommend adjunctive therapy for those concerns. I do not provide couples or family therapy. I do not treat children or adolescents 17 or younger.
